6TH Annual Well Seasoned BBQ on the Bypass is set to sizzle on September 18th
Greater Vancouver's biggest BBQ competition & free public event to offer with more competitions, barbequed food & entertainment

LANGLEY, BC, September 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The countdown is on to the 6th annual Well Seasoned BBQ on the Bypass on Sunday, September 18th from 10 am to 4 pm at 20771 Langley Bypass in Langley, British Columbia. With just three weeks to go, organizers are anticipating this will be another record year with thousands of attendees and over one hundred competitors. Highlights of the 2011 event will be The JD Farms Ultimate Burger Challenge, The Great B.C. Bake Off, new concessions, BBQ samples, and the crowning of BBQ champions in various categories.

"For an event that started out with just a few hundred people, it's incredible to see how much we've grown in a short amount of time, said Angie Quaale, organizer of BBQ On The Bypass and owner of Well Seasoned gourmet food store. "Now, as Greater Vancouver's biggest BBQ competition, we attract the biggest crowds and the highest caliber of competitors, while creating a fun foodie event for everyone."
 
New this year is The JD Farms Ultimate Burger Challenge, a competition where teams will be ranked on their superior hamburger creations. 2011 and will also mark the return of The Great B.C. Bake Off, an amateur pie and tart baking competition open to the public. In addition, the event will feature an expanded concession area, marketplace, and a children's area hosted by The Great Escape.

The event will be emceed by food columnist and culinary instructor, Chef Dez and the esteemed panel of certified judges will include celebrity chef, Anthony Sedlak; Global TV anchor, Steve Darling; Breakfast TV host on CityTV host, Dawn Chubai; and City of Langley Mayor Peter Fassbender. Competitors will include last year's reigning BBQ champions from House of Q.The BBQ on the Bypass house band, OS5 will perform throughout the day along with special guest, Country music artist, Karen Lee Batten. The event will also feature a marketplace with sponsor displays, activities, prizes; plus concessions and BBQ food samples provided by the teams.

The Well Seasoned BBQ On The Bypass is a competition based event where BBQ teams vie for cash prizes in the categories of chicken, ribs, beef brisket and pork butt and a chef's choice category. The team with the highest overall points will be crowned the BBQ on the Bypass Grand Champion and will win up to $5,000 in cash prizes. The BBQ on the Bypass is also the site of the B.C. BBQ Championship and the last competition in a series where the team with the most points in all five provincial competitions will be crowned the BC BBQ Champion, earning the David Valjasic Cup.

Approximately 30 teams are expected to compete at this year's event including House of Q, Land Shark and Rub My Butt from Surrey; Mad Cow, The Porkaholics and Helluva Q from Langley; Whistler's BBQ Bob & the Eh Team; Team 58 and The Wicked Q & the Meat Whispers from Vancouver Island; and Cock n Bull, Lynn Valley Butts, Smoke N Bones BBQ and Bad Ass BBQ from North Vancouver and many more. The BBQ On The Bypass is a not-for-profit event designed to introduce more people to "real BBQ" while providing competitive teams with an opportunity to hone their skills. As an internationally sanctioned cook off, the BBQ on the Bypass brings world class competitive teams from across Western Canada and the U.S. to Langley for Greater Vancouver's largest BBQ competition. Teams will start cooking at 7:00 pm on the evening of Saturday, September 17th and turn in their entries to be judged every hour on the hour after 11:00 am on Sunday, September 18th. The winners will be announced at approximately 5:00 p.m.
