Canadian Producer Makes Saskatchewan The Backdrop For Latest Film
David Cormican, creator and director of The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition announces production of last year's winning script "Seeing in the Dark," in beautiful Saskatchewan.
REGINA, SK, CANADA, July 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Cormican, creator and director of The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) -- the most prestigious short film script contest in Canada -- is thrilled to announce production of last year's winning script "Seeing in the Dark," in beautiful Saskatchewan.
"It's a wonderful little script and this is my first production that I am producing here in Saskatchewan. I am just amazed at how the community here embraces a shoot and really gets behind the people and team involved," shares Cormican.
The Screenplay -- penned by Gordon Pengilly -- tells the story of Clayton Sykora, a paroled prisoner who tries to reconnect with his former life in his first day as a free man. The short film is set in the 1980's and includes an all Sask-Canadian cast, starring Regina native Amy Matysio and Cormican, who will be playing the lead role.
"Seeing in the Dark" will be shooting from July 5 to 6 with a modest budget in varied locations in Saskathcewan, including the cozy Mr. Breakfast restaurant and the Regina Public Works building.
This will mark Cormican's debut as a producer in Saskatchewan. The short will be using all the latest technology in film, including the R3D camera HD digital filming technology. Since the film is set in the 80's, part of it will be shot inside a vintage 1988 47-passenger Charter Bus from Engelheim Charters of Lipton, SK. Period tattoos, wardrobe and make-up have all been selected for the film with the help of local make-up artist Kaitlyn Rae.
The exciting shoot will be visited by guests from the Saskatchewan-shot TV series "Hollywood Saskatchewan," who will be profiling the film to include footage in an episode for the second season.
Although this may be his debut as a producer in Saskatchewan, Cormican is no newbie to the world of film. Currently the director of development at Mind's Eye Entertainment in Regina -- one of Canada's leading production companies -- Cormican also owns his very own film company, Year of the Skunk productions, who's producing all CSSC-selected films.
His film credits include the Award Winning "Quebec, Quebec" and the upcoming "Lullaby For Pi" which stars Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker, among many other independent productions and short films.
The CSSC is being sponsored and supported by a variety of industry heavyweights which include Raindance Canada, Mind's Eye Entertainment, Playback Magazine, InkTip, film and television literary agency Meridian Artists, as well as distribution support from Ouat!Media. CSSC is also honoured to have support from SaskFilm.
